Three towns on the Guérande peninsula stand out for their authenticity and rich heritage. Le Croisic, Batz-sur-Mer and Piriac-sur-Mer have been awarded the Petite Cité deCaractère® label, which recognises charming villages on a human scale where heritage is part of everyday life.

Le Croisic, port with character

At the tip of the peninsula, Le Croisic has an authentic, maritime feel.

Listed as a Petite Cité de Caractère®, it has preserved an exceptional heritage while remaining a lively and welcoming town. Its shipowners’ houses line the quays of the Lénigo, a reminder of the port’s rich commercial past.

Stroll through the cobbled streets, the little shops, the market and the sea-facing terraces. The GR®34 follows the wild coastline, offering superb views of the ocean and the famous“Rocher de l’Ours”.

Between heritage, coastal walks and the pleasures of the sea, Le Croisic perfectly illustrates the spirit of the label: a place on a human scale, warm and welcoming, where history and local life meet on a daily basis.

Batz-sur-Mer, heir to the salt

Between the ocean and the salt marshes, Batz-sur-Mer proudly cultivates its Breton identity.

Listed as a Petite Cité de Caractère® (Small Town of Character), Batz-sur-Mer has a rich heritage and beautiful landscapes. Overlooking the town, the Saint-Guénolé tower offers a panoramic view of the wild coastline and the salt-marsh villages.

At its foot, the ruins of the Chapelle du Mûrier and the Moulin de la Falaise bear witness to a past shaped by salt and wind.

The Musée des Marais Salants and the Musée du Grand Blockhaus complete the discovery. On the beach at Saint-Michel, the famous yellow cabins take up residence every spring, symbolising the return of the fine weather.

Batz-sur-Mer is a city full of character, where you can take the time to look, understand and breathe.

Piriac-sur-Mer, the charm of narrow streets

Between granite and hydrangeas, Piriac-sur-Mer is proud of its character.

Its colourful shuttered houses ,narrow streets and sheltered harbour have earned it the status of Petite Cité de Caractère®.

Zola, Daudet and many others found refuge and inspiration here, seduced by its authenticity and its very special light. Stroll along the narrow streets lined with hollyhocks, linger in the harbour to listen to the lapping of the boats or follow the coastal path to the Pointe du Castelli to admire the open sea.
