An all-inclusive day combining discovery of the port, maritime heritage and practical workshops for a fun and immersive fishing experience.

Take your class on an immersive day exploring the world of fishing. This all-inclusive programme, specially designed for cycle 2 pupils (CP, CE1, CE2), combines discovery of the port, maritime heritage and practical workshops. Pupils learn while having fun: observing the boats, visiting an old sardine factory and learning about sea knots will give them a fun, hands-on experience of the coast.

Morning

  • 10:00 – Guided tour of the port of La Turballe

Accompanied by a guide, students discover a fishing port and its activities. The guide will explain the various facilities, the fishing seasons and the fishing fleet.

Duration: 1 hour

  • 11.15am – Guided tour of the former sardine ship “Au Gré des Vents

Pupils embark on a journey back in time with a visit to the quayside of an old sardine fishing boat called “Au Gré des Vents”. They will learn about the fishing techniques used in the past and the work of the fishermen.

Duration: 45 min – by half-class and in rotation according to number of pupils

  • Lunch: Self-catered picnic. Toilets on site.

AFTERNOON

  • 13:30 – Self-guided tour of the Maison de la Pêche museum and seamanship workshop

    Pupils take an independent tour of the fun and educational exhibition at the Maison de la Pêche museum. The seamanship workshop gives them an insight into the work and gestures of sailors through an introduction to knot tying.

Duration: 1h30 – By half-class and in rotation according to the number of participants

Ends around 3.15pm (with 2 or 3 classes: alternating visits to the 3 sites)
