A romantic spring weekend

A romantic weekend in spring on the Guérande peninsula: medieval town, salt marshes and a trip on the Vilaine.

The essentials of your stay

Spring is the perfect time for a weekend for two on the Guérande peninsula.

The days are getting longer, the temperatures are mild and the area offers the perfect mix of nature, heritage and relaxation.
Between the medieval streets, salt marshes, seaside and river walks, you can make the most of these special moments, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Take advantage of this iodised break to sample the local specialities in one of the destination’s many restaurants.

Guérande  and salt marshes

Start with the medieval town of Guérande. Arriving early allows you to enjoy the atmosphere of the Saturday market and discover the local produce: vegetables, cheeses, galettes and seafood. Stroll through the cobbled streets, admire the ramparts and soak up the history of this fortified town on one of the guided tours offered by the Tourist Office.

In the afternoon, take a trip to the Guérande salt marshes. With a guide, discover the salt worker’s trade, the changing landscapes of the marshes and the local fauna.
This 100% natural immersion tour combines walking, discovery and salt tasting.

The colours of spring and the calm of the area make it the perfect place to take a break in the heart of a unique natural environment.

Walk on the Vilaine  at the Arzal dam

For this second day, head for Camoël and Férel, two peaceful villages with superb views over the Vilaine.

There are plenty of options for exploring the surrounding area: hiking, cycling orriver trips!
Nearby, on the other side of the Arzal dam, you can hire different types of craft: boats with or without a licence, canoes, kayaks or paddleboats!

The Vilaine’s calm waters make for smooth sailing. The river reveals a green and soothing setting, perfect for a moment together.

If you have a little time left, don ‘t miss La Roche Bernard, with its old town and little port on the Vilaine!

Pénestin  and the GR®34

To round off the weekend, head for Pénestin and the Pointe du Bile. Start with a seafood tasting for a convivial, gourmet experience. Restaurants and local producers offer fresh produce typical of the region.

Then enjoy a digestive stroll along the GR®34. The path runs along the coast, offering spectacular views of cliffs, beaches and the ocean. In spring, the light at the end of the day makes this experience even more enjoyable… an ideal way to round off a romantic weekend of local flavours and seascapes.
