With its endless beaches, wild coves and picturesque harbours, the coastline of La Baule-Presqu’île de Guérande is a great place to spend time with family, friends or lovers.

The bay of La Baule the art of seaside living

Listed as one of the most beautiful bays in the world, the Bay of La Baule stretches over almost 9 kilometres of fine sand, linking Pornichet, La Baule and Le Pouliguen. Here, everything invites you to relax: swimming, lounging, strolling along the embankment or playing beach games with the family.
Children’s clubs keep the holiday alive, while the more sporty types take to the water on kitesurf, catamaran or paddle in a breathtaking setting. On the Plage Benoît side, the high tides attract fans of fishing on foot, in search of cockles and clams.

In the background, the Belle Époque villas and prestigious hotels remind us that La Baule is much more than just a beach: it’s a seaside art of living, where refinement and conviviality come together naturally.

Head for the wild coast, coves and beaches

Leaving the bay for Le Pouliguen, the wild coastline is a natural jewel. Between cliffs, caves and secret coves, the landscapes change with the light and tides. The Douaniers trail offers spectacular views between Batz-sur-Mer and Le Croisic, where the sea has been sculpting the rock for centuries. The beaches of La Govelle and Valentin are a delight for surfers and lovers of the great outdoors.

Opposite Le Croisic , the Pointe de Pen-Bron stretches between the traicts and the ocean, offering a natural setting of great beauty. This protected site boasts a peaceful beach, wild dunes and footpaths perfect for strolling and contemplation. Here, you can breathe in the sea air, watch migratory birds and enjoy a unique panorama.

Further north, Mesquer-Quimiac and Piriac-sur-Mer offer a gentler atmosphere: the beach at Lanséria invites you to relax, while the Pointe de Merquel attracts lovers of nature, birds and sunsets.

The coast from Assérac to Pénestin has wilder, unspoilt beaches, dunes and stretches of fine sand perfect for family walks or moments of peace and quiet by the ocean.

Harbours and water sports the coastline in motion

The ports of the Guérande peninsula are at the heart of the lively coastline. At Le Pouliguen, the quaysides are alive with merry-go-rounds, sweet shops and lively terraces.

Le Croisic and La Turballe are emblematic ports for local fishing. Here, trawlers and net boats set out to sea every day, bringing back fish, shellfish and crustaceans to supply the markets and restaurants along the coast. Visitors can discover this traditional activity, watch the boats return to port or take part in supervised fishing trips.

These ports and the surrounding coastline are also departure points for all kinds ofwater sports: sailing, kayaking, sea excursions and diving. Whether you’re looking for thrills, discovery or family fun, everyone can enjoy the sea in their own way.

Explore an unspoilt region

When you think of the seaside, you think of fragile ecosystems, often considered rare at European level. These environments are home to many protected plant species, reflecting the richness and diversity of the coastline. To preserve this natural heritage, the French government has included certain stretches of coastline in the Natura 2000 network, covering areas such as Le Pouliguen, Le Croisic, the south of La Turballe and the north of Mesquer as far as Pénestin.

One of the treasures of this coastline is the Passion flower. Found mainly on the protected dunes between La Turballe and Pénestin, this orchid is a valuable indicator of the health of the natural environment. Picking it is strictly inadvisable in order to ensure the long-term survival of this fragile ecosystem.
