Pen Bron, a natural setting opposite Le Croisic

Ajouter aux favoris

Between La Turballe and the salt marshes of Guérande stretches a long stretch of sand: the pointe de Pen Bron. Bordered by a pine forest, it juts out into the ocean and runs alongside the traict of Le Croisic. The largest natural dune massif in the Loire-Atlantique department, Pen Bron is a great place to take a walk on the sea.

A place with many faces

At the tip of La Turballe, Pen Bron forms a spit of sand between ocean, marsh and pine forest. The site is part of the longest dune belt on the peninsula, with a succession of white dunes close to the sea and more stable grey dunes further back. Further out, the marshes complete this open landscape, offering a striking contrast between dry and wet areas.

Signposted footpaths make it easy to explore the entire site on foot or by bike. You’ll wander between sand, pine trees and marshes, with uninterrupted views of the ocean and Le Croisic opposite. It’s an accessible, flowing walk that gives you the full measure of this multi-faceted natural area.

A natural site to preserve

The pointe de Pen Bron is a protected natural area. Here, you can explore with care: no picking is allowed and marked paths are essential to preserve the dunes and the flora that grows there. Maritime pines, planted over time to bind the sand and protect the land, now form a veritable plant barrier.

This forest plays a key role for local wildlife, particularly birds, which find peace and shelter here. Classified as a Special Protection Area under the Birds Directive, Pen Bron is home to numerous species of Community interest, several of which nest on the site. A discreet but very present natural wealth, which reminds us of the importance of respecting this place at every step.
