La Turballe between ocean, fishing and wide open spaces

A lively, authentic seaside town, La Turballe has a charming fishing port, 11 km of natural beaches and a friendly atmosphere. Here, the sea sets the tone all year round!

Getting there

Fishing nets, auction and know-how

La Turballe lives to the rhythm of the sea. As the leading fishing port in the Loire-Atlantique region, it is home to a busy fleet that unloads sardines, anchovies and other seafood products every day, depending on the season – a testament to a maritime tradition that is still very much alive. Guided tours of the auction and the port of La Turballe are available, allowing you to observe the bustle of the sales and the skills of the fishermen.

Stroll along the quays and you’ll discover the colourful ships and repair workshops that bear witness to the town’s strong maritime heritage. Between authenticity and modernity, La Turballe is a lively port where the sea shapes the identity of the place and the daily lives of its inhabitants.

Pen Bron Breathing in the ocean

At the southern end of La Turballe, the pointe de Pen Bron offers an exceptional panorama over the traict of Le Croisic and the ocean. This Natura 2000 site is a remarkable protected dune area, bordered by a pine forest, with vast expanses, sandy paths and wild landscapes shaped by the wind and tides…

A haven for many species of bird, Pen Bron is a soothing place to stroll, where nature can express itself in complete freedom. The light, colours and atmosphere change with the seasons, revealing an ever-changing face of the coastline. Here, the balance between preservation and discovery is experienced at every step.

Situated on one of the highest points in La Turballe and the Guérande Peninsula, the Trescalan Belvedere offers an exceptional panorama. Climb the 110 steps to reach a belvedere more than 70m above sea level, with a 360° view over the Presqu’île.

The association Au gré des vents organises tours of the Kerbroué mill. Built in the XIXᵉ century, it is a living witness to local heritage. Here you can discover the traditional flour-making process, from the grain to the finished product, and admire how the millstones work in an authentic setting. A visit that combines history and traditional know-how.

The Maison de la Pêche museum plunges you into the heart of La Turballe’s maritime history: the life of sailors, know-how, navigation, local traditions… An immersive visit that perfectly complements the experiences offered via our ticket office, such as the mill, the belvedere or other key sites in the area.

Emblematic of sardine fishing in La Turballe, this 24-tonne boat was in operation until 1992. Saved from destruction by a few heritage enthusiasts, “Au Gré des Vents” was restored and kept afloat. It has now been awarded the Bateau d’Intérêt Patrimonial (Boat of Heritage Interest) label, and offers a unique guided tour to discover the fishing techniques used, the work of the fishermen and explore the different compartments of the boat.
