Piriac-sur-Mer, Breton charm and seaside spirit

Piriac-sur-Mer has a unique character. Its narrow flower-lined streets, lively port and rugged coastline offer a concentrate of authenticity to be savoured at any time of year.

Getting there

between granite and ocean

Piriac-sur-Mer is aPetite Cité de Caractère® with a timeless charm. Its cobbled streets lined with granite houses, adorned with brightly coloured hydrangeas, make up a picture-postcard landscape, typical of a seaside village. Piriac-sur-Mer is also steeped in history, the story ofa port shaped by sailors and which has fascinated writers’ imaginations. The town is full of typical details: sundials, sculpted pediments and cobbled alleyways that tell the story of nearby Brittany, past and present.

It’s a delight to stroll from the historic centre to the bustling marina, where traditional boats and leisure craft mingle. The village’s friendly atmosphere can be seen on the quayside, with cafés, craft markets and summer entertainment, mainly in the church square, but also on the Quai de Verdun and in the shopping streets. Piriac-sur-Mer is a seaside town where young and old alike are invited to try their hand at sailing, kayaking or paddle-boarding, to fully experience the nautical tradition of this coastal town.

Côte Sauvage and legends

The coastal path, or GR® 34, reveals the wild beauty of the Piriac shoreline. Between cliffs, coves and fine sandy beaches, the walk offers an exceptional panorama of the ocean. Following the customs path between the little port of Lérat and the Pointe du Castelli, walkers will discover a succession of rocks, some with surprising shapes, sculpted by the wind and waves. These natural curiosities have inspired many legends: les Dents de Madame, le Tombeau d’Almanzor, la Grotte à Madame, or le Trou du Moine Fou… So many unusual stops along this walk between nature, history and the Breton imagination.
