In February, dare to slide

Ajouter aux favoris

As soon as you arrive on the coast, you quickly realise that winter doesn’t put anything on hold. The sea is still very much alive, the beaches are wider, the air is invigorating… and this is perhaps the best time to try out new sensations. Here, surfing isn’t just for seasoned surfers: there are a whole range of activities to choose from, all accessible and exotic, perfect for those who like to get moving even when it’s cold.

Guaranteed thrills at Batz-sur-Mer La Govelle beach

In Batz-sur-Mer, La Govelle beach is still the place to be when it comes to surfing, even in the middle of February. The waves are often steadier, the wind stronger and the atmosphere calmer than in summer. Put on your wetsuit (thick, I promise), and set off for a session where every wave becomes a real learning experience. Those who prefer to avoid the board can also try their hand at bodyboarding: guaranteed thrills, with no headaches. You come out of the water tired but happy, with the feeling that you’ve enjoyed winter in a different way.

A little secret: the cold February light sometimes produces incredible colours on the wild coast!

Get started in Pénestin Poudrantais beach

At Pénestin, towards the Poudrantais beach, the waters are calmer and the terrain is protected. It’s the ideal place for a gentler discovery: aquatic walking, very quiet paddling or your first slides in an impressive setting thanks to the cliffs and large stretches of sand.

Winter brings a special, almost silent atmosphere, where you can progress at your own pace without ever feeling rushed…

La Baule and Le Pouliguen, slide differently

In the bay of La Baule, the water sports never stop. The immense, unobstructed beach is perfect for all kinds of activities, even out of season. You can try your hand at sailing thanks to the steady westerly wind, take a catamaran outing with an instructor, or try your hand at wingfoiling, which works really well in a fresh breeze, and has become a must-do activity in winter.

Le Pouliguen offers the same feeling of freedom: the sea for us, a few boats, a motivating wind… and the impression of being far from everyday life.

Ready for the experience?

To try out, improve or simply get started, you can count on the region’s sailing clubs and schools, present from La Baule to Le Pouliguen, not forgetting the wilder spots. They provide guidance, advice and the right equipment, and know the sea well in winter and summer alike. It’s reassuring, especially for first-timers!

But winter is also an ideal time to practice in complete freedom, when you’ve already mastered your activity: a board under your arm, a warm wetsuit, and the coast becomes a huge playground.
Whether you prefer to be guided or slide on your own, there’s a way for everyone to enjoy the ocean.
