The salt marshes

Here, the landscape changes with the seasons. The salt marshes reveal a mosaic of colours that tells the story of salt and the work of the salt workers. Covering more than 2,000 hectares, this emblematic natural area is divided into two main zones:

  • The Guérande salt marshes, 1,650 hectares around the Traict du Croisic, divided between Batz-sur-Mer, Guérande and La Turballe.
  • The Mès salt marshes, 350 hectares located in Mesquer-Quimiac, Saint-Molf and Assérac.

Combining heritage, know-how and discovery, the salt marshes offer a unique setting for understanding how salt is formed and exploring one of the must-see sites on the Guérande peninsula.
